Ready, Set, Go … again!

Month of July:

Back in Greece and the temperature is rising. Our good friend, David, is coming to help us for a couple of weeks with our launch and sailing through to Paros just in case I am not quite up to any heavy work. We had about another 5 days to finish off all our tasks and be ready for launch on Monday July 3rd.

Finally we launched and although the morning was windless we managed to put up the brand new sails, jump in the dinghy, and take a couple of nice photos. Our first night at Korfos was spent saying hello/goodbye to our friends Warren and Helen on MACSEA. As we start our season they have finished theirs and were on their way to the yard for haul-out the following day.

We planned to head east with Paros being our next major stop where David would leave us to fly home to the UK and Steve from NZ would arrive for another couple of weeks through to Turkey.

Weather is always what dictates our timing and although we would have liked to meander across the Aegean east to Paros, we could see some bad weather expected in a few days time so it we hightailed it out of Poros pre dawn and headed to our first stop, Ormos Episkhopi on Kythnos for a very quiet overnight stop and onwards the next morning.

We were only planning to do a short 4 hour hop to Serifos but the sailing was so nice we carried on for another 4 hours and made it all the way to Parikia habour on Paros. We will have 5 days here until Steve arrives and David departs so time to get the crew to work cleaning up and swabbing those decks!

With some very windy weather we decided on a couple of land based activities. The first one with David was a local bus adventure up to the mountain town of Lefkes which we had heard was very pretty. Not sure why but, yes is was pretty in a quintessentially Greek way, but very quiet with only a couple of restaurants open. We walked the paved alleyways and streets and took some lovely photos of old doors and bougainvillea and found a shady spot to have lunch before catching the bus back down to town.

Hi Rob, great to get your update. Don’t know what was different but this time I was able to read everything without the great photos hiding your messages. Stay safe, stay well, be happy. Cheers, Nicki
